Abstract

This essay analyzes the evolution of contemporary realism according to two main issues, which meet current and future concerns: A) the dichotomy between manifest image and scientific image of the world and B) the interplay between ontology and epistemology. I consider some recent publications dealing with four different perspectives on this topic: the connection between liberal naturalism and realism (M. De Caro, Realtà, 2020 and M. De Caro and D. Macarthur, Routledge Handbook to Liberal Naturalism, 2022); the proposal ofan antinaturalistic naturalism (L. Illetterati, Nature and technology: towards an antinaturalistic naturalism, 2020) rooted in a Hegelian background; the proposal of an experiential realism outlined within the phenomenological Husserlian approach (Vincenzo Costa, Esperienza e realtà. La prospettiva fenomenologica, 2021); the life-long achievement of Hilary Putnam’s realism deepened in the comprehensive monograph of M. Dell’Utri (2020).
